Many of us choose our clothing based on the style without really giving a thought to whether it suits our skin tone. Let’s take a look at how you can find out which skin tone you have and the best colours for you.

You may have an idea of your skin tone, particularly when it comes to choosing makeup, but many of us are wearing the wrong shades. Hold up a blank sheet of white paper or fabric next to your face to see how it changes your skin. Do you see yellow, pink or a mix of both? The results will confirm your tone.

Cool tone

For a cool skin tone, look for blues when choosing your clothes. This doesn’t mean that you have to stick solely with denim; instead, look deeper for a blue base. You can even go for purples or reds, which will give an awesome vibrant look. There are some beautiful maxi dresses out there that serve as the perfect go-between for day and night, with many available in the perfect colours for cool skin tones.

Warm tone

If you have a warm skin tone, keep it bright with oranges, reds and yellows. This is the perfect skin tone for the summer, when bold statement pieces are in abundance and give you plenty of choice of what to wear. Don’t fall into the trap of workwear that is solely made up of muted colours; instead, mix it up a bit with vibrant blouses or dresses, such as AX Paris maxi dresses, that are suitable for both the office and drinks after.

Neutral tone

If you are lucky enough to have a neutral skin tone, you pretty much get a free pass when it comes to choosing an outfit that will suit you. This is your opportunity to play around with different shades and patterns, as it is almost guaranteed that you will look good. Be brave and go for rainbow brights; alternatively, use layers – such as a colourful denim jacket – to create a fun, interesting look. Wear what you feel, which we imagine will be bright and beautiful with the summer months in full swing.

Whatever your skin tone, you will find some amazing summer clothes that will make you stand out for all the right reasons.
